Stress and epigenetic aging among Black older adults

Currently, Dr. Brown is training to conduct independent research projects that thoughtfully integrate race/ethnicity, stress, ancestry, and epigenetics among older Black adults. Her long term goals are to develop the bioethics and statistical genomics training necessary to engage older Black populations about their beliefs, perceived barriers, and demands for equitable data and benefit sharing practices in genetic research. She aims expand ideas around data ownership, rights and ethics of biomarker and genetic data in Black and African ancestry populations, recognizing that the existing structure of large survey, commercial and research biobanking services do not provide an opportunity to directly connect Black older adults to needed health care services and resources, family ancestry data, subsidized medications, royalties, health data ownership and intellectual-property rights.
